What is Holi Festival?

Holi is a Hindu spring festival celebrated all across India, Nepal, as well as countries with large Indian communities. Traditionally celebrated to commemorate good spring harvests and fertile land, the festival involves the spraying of coloured powder solutions to one another. Because of this, Holi has been well-known as the "Festival of Colours" worldwide.

Where to celebrate Holi in Malaysia?

Wait, are you telling me that you don't have to fly all the way to India to celebrate Holi? Well perhaps, celebrating Holi in the country where it originated from is still ultimately the bucket list for so many travellers. But unless you have saved enough money to do so, you can always celebrate Holi right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!

Holi Festival is celebrated within the month of March, so most festival organisers will pick a weekend to set the date. As there are more than one festival organisers in Kuala Lumpur, you will be spoilt to pick which date and festival suits you the most! As for me, I went to Geeta Ashram Holi 2018 located in Petaling Jaya... and I loved every second of it!

What to prepare for Holi Festival?

Do's

  • Wear clothes that you wouldn't mind getting stained on (duh, but it's even better if you wear white shirts!)

  • Bring sunglasses (not only for the sun glares, but also to protect your eyes against splashing powders)

  • Waterproof pouch to protect the rest of your things

Don't's

  • Wear clothing that are too revealing (not that I have a problem with it, but some organisers do)

  • Bringing food/drinks and other restricted items into the festival (make sure to follow all the rules and guidelines of the festival before going).

And have fun!
